PETERBOROUGH, ONTARIO, CANADA, October 13, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Miranda Water Technologies Inc. (“Miranda”), a global leader in community-scale water and wastewater treatment solutions, today announced the successful completion of an industrial wastewater treatment pilot at Kawartha Ethanol’s facility in Havelock, Ontario. The project used Miranda’s MC200 Miracell® Rotating Biological Contactor (RBC) system as part of Kawartha Ethanol’s broader waste-stream recovery initiative, achieving greater than 98% removal of targeted contaminants under the tested operating conditions. Based on these results, Kawartha Ethanol has agreed to purchase the MC200 Miracell® RBC system, together with additional Miranda treatment technologies designed to further enhance the overall treatment process.

The project marks Miranda’s first deployment of its Miracell® RBC technology in the North American specialized industrial wastewater market, expanding the application of the technology to high-strength biological treatment. The final solution will combine biological treatment with additional Miranda filtration and treatment technologies to address the specific characteristics of Kawartha Ethanol’s industrial waste stream.

Throughout the pilot, Miranda’s North American team worked closely with its environmental, process and manufacturing engineering team in Türkiye. Pilot data was continuously evaluated to refine operating parameters and develop a treatment process tailored to the facility’s wastewater characteristics and production conditions.

As part of the project, Miranda also established the operating parameters for an industrial version of its SmartCell™ intelligent control and optimization platform. Designed to support the more complex requirements of industrial wastewater treatment, the platform will provide centralized process control, performance monitoring and operational data collection, enabling the treatment process to be continuously evaluated and optimized as production conditions and wastewater characteristics change. The industrial SmartCell™ platform will form part of the final treatment solution at Kawartha Ethanol.

“It was a pleasure working alongside the Kawartha Ethanol team and benefiting from the extensive operational and technical expertise of its staff throughout the pilot project,” said Michael Skinner, President and Chief Executive Officer of Miranda Water Technologies. “This was a highly collaborative process that brought together Kawartha Ethanol’s industry knowledge with the environmental, process and manufacturing expertise of Miranda’s Canadian and Turkish teams. The results demonstrate the potential for our Miracell® RBC, filtration and industrial SmartCell™ technologies to address challenging industrial wastewater streams.”

“It has been a great experience for our team to leverage Miranda’s environmental engineering capabilities and manufacturing design expertise to develop a highly efficient treatment process,” said Darrell Drain, President of Kawartha Ethanol. “We look forward to seeing the additional improvements Miranda will bring to this project and to the broader industrial wastewater sector.”

The Kawartha Ethanol project expands the potential applications of Miranda’s technology platform in the North American industrial wastewater market. Miranda plans to apply the operating experience and performance data generated through the project to further advance solutions for high-strength wastewater, biological treatment, resource recovery, advanced filtration and intelligent process control.
